Red Oak Painting at the Judith Nyman Secondary School Black Excellence Event
Earlier this week, Red Oak Painting had the honour of participating in the Black Excellence Event at Judith Nyman Secondary School.
The event created space to celebrate culture, leadership, and achievement while also exposing students to real-world career opportunities. For our team, it was an opportunity to introduce young people to the professional world of residential and commercial painting and to highlight the trades as a viable, respected, and profitable career path.
Introducing Students to the Realities of the Trades
During the session, we spoke with students about:
The difference between residential and commercial painting ✅
What a typical workday looks like on a job site ✅
The importance of preparation, safety, and professionalism ✅
How painting fits into the larger construction and skilled trades industry ✅
We also brought real tools of the trade so students could see and handle the equipment used in the field. Creating a tactile, hands-on experience helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical application.
Why Exposure Matters
Many students are introduced to traditional career paths but have limited exposure to skilled trades. Events like this demonstrate that painting is more than applying colour to walls. It requires technical knowledge, precision, teamwork, and leadership.
With skilled trades in high demand across Ontario, it is critical that young people understand the range of opportunities available to them. From entry-level positions to business ownership, the trades offer stability, mobility, and long-term growth.
Seeing students curious, engaged, and open to learning about professional painting reinforces why community outreach remains a core part of what we do.
Celebrating Black Excellence and Community Leadership
We extend sincere thanks to BTC Be The Change, the staff, and the event organizers at Judith Nyman Secondary School for creating an environment that celebrates Black excellence while connecting students to practical, professional pathways.
Events like this are not just about exposure. They’re about empowerment!
Bringing Trades Education to Your School or Organization
Red Oak Painting is committed to continuing this work across schools and community organizations throughout Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
If your school, youth program, or organization is interested in hosting:
A hands-on trades workshop ✅
A professional painting demonstration ✅
A skilled trades career talk ✅
Industry exposure sessions for students ✅
We would be honoured to connect.
